Employee Performance

In your ongoing relationships with employees, there will be times when an employee doesn't perform the way you had hoped or expected. When that occurs, you need to decide whether the situation requires support in the form of coaching and instruction, or discipline to correct inappropriate conduct. Then you have to follow up on that decision.

One way to reduce the stress of discussing performance with employees is to schedule a periodic performance review. That way, you have an opportunity to provide feedback when an employee is performing well, and not just when a problem arises. It’s also an important addition to periodic salary reviews, which are common in most businesses.
