Why do I need to go online?

You have recently installed a new version of QuickBooks. QuickBooks must go online and connect to the payroll service to update the status of your payroll service subscription and download new payroll updates as required.

Processing payroll with a temporary loss of an Internet connection

If you need to run payroll and your Internet connection is temporarily unavailable, you may call your payroll service representative and ask for an a one-time use subscription code. This code will enable you to pay your employees immediately.

To reach a payroll service representative, from the Help menu, click Access Support Resources and then click the Contact Us link in the Assisted Support section to open the QuickBooks Support Phone Directory.

Processing payroll without an Internet connection.

Because payroll updates are distributed via the Internet to QuickBooks Payroll online subscribers, you must have an Internet connection to use these services. If you do not have Internet access from your QuickBooks computer, you can choose the disk delivery option. Your payroll updates will be mailed to you on a CD-ROM. There is an additional cost for the disk delivery option. QuickBooks cannot automatically calculate payroll tax withholdings without the payroll updates provided by QuickBooks Payroll.
