Access rights for Windows 2000 / XP -------------------------------------- If you are a network administrator who installs QuickBooks for other users in your company, be aware that users must have at least Standard user rights to be able to run QuickBooks. Users who have Restricted user rights cannot write to the registry keys and will not be able to use QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. For more information, please visit our online support site at: http://www.QuickBooks.com/support and search for the keywords "Standard user rights" ------------------------------------- II. System monitoring software alerts ------------------------------------- During normal program operation, QuickBooks will make registry modifications which may trigger warnings from system monitoring software, such as Norton Clean Sweep. The monitoring software may interpret these modifications as a new application installation and trigger a logging request. To avoid this behavior, you may have to disable the automatic monitoring feature when you run QuickBooks on that system. --------------------------------------------- III. Intuit Internal Printer driver installed --------------------------------------------- For QuickBooks to be able to email forms with PDF images attached, a printer driver called the Intuit Internal Printer will be installed. This driver is installed between approximately 20-40% of the installation process with the heading "Installing PDF Printer Driver Files." If the computer stops responding during this sub-installation routine, you can terminate it to allow the QuickBooks installation to complete. This can be accomplished by bringing up the close program list by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard and ending task on the process called "install.exe". This will cause the PDF printer driver to not be installed, however this driver will be automatically be installed if you attempt to use the email forms feature in QuickBooks. ----------------------------------------------------- IV. Windows Operating System Service Pack information ----------------------------------------------------- Microsoft periodically updates their operating systems to correct problems and add new features. These updated releases are called Service Packs. Because QuickBooks takes advantage of some of the enhancements provided by the Microsoft Service Packs, we recommend that you keep your operating system up to date and install the latest service pack available for your system. ------------------------------------------ V. QuickBooks requires a math co-processor ------------------------------------------ For QuickBooks to be able to calculate using floating decimal points, your computer must have a numeric data processor (also known as a math co-processor). Without it, you will encounter a fatal exception error each time you enter numeric data containing decimal points. This problem will also occur if you have a numeric data processor that has been disabled. ------------------------ VI. Contacting Microsoft ------------------------ The fastest way to receive the latest operating system and file updates from Microsoft is to use the Internet. You can access these updates by choosing either the download or support pages at: http://www.microsoft.com If you do not have Internet access, you may order Microsoft updates by calling the Microsoft Supplemental or Replacement Parts line at 800-360-7561. --------------------- VII.
