- Configure network settings for me. Select this if you want the printer setup wizard to automatically configure the HP Jetdirect print server to work on your network. This option is supported for both TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols. If you have both protocols installed on your PC, the wizard will choose the one it determines to be most appropriate.
After selecting Configure network settings for me, you will be presented a confirmation screen which will allow you to view the automatic configuration settings.
You will also have the opportunity to print a test page which shows these settings: print a test page at the end of this wizard (you will be given this option on the last screen in the wizard), or you can print a Jetdirect test page by pressing the configuration (test) button on the print server.
Depending on the protocol you use, the printer setup wizard will configure the following:
- TCP/IP (direct mode):
Your Jetdirect print server will be assigned an IP address, a subnet mask, and a default gateway address. If your Jetdirect print server does not have an IP address already assigned to it, its IP address will be 169.254.x.x, where x stands for an auto-configured number. This range is called the Automatic Private IP Address (APIPA) range. This configuration will be saved on your Jetdirect print server and the software will use this information to create a port for this printer on your PC.
- IPX (direct mode):
The Hardware Address (MAC address) and the IPX Network Number that the Jetdirect card has detected will be used to create the port for this printer (or mutli-function device) on your PC.
- Let me configure my own network settings. Select this if you want to specify configuration settings for your Jetdirect print server. You will be asked for some or all of the following:
- IP address
- subnet mask
- default gateway address
- Hardware Address (MAC address)
This installer does not support printer installation or printer object creation on Novell servers. It only supports direct-mode network installation between this Windows PC and a printer. To install your printer and create objects on your Novell server, please use another utility such as Web Jetadmin, HP Install Network Printer Wizard, or a Novell utility such as NWadmin.
